What happens during thunderstorms or rough weather at Surf Camp?
Thunderstorms are a common occurrence in Florida. Especially in the afternoons. We take lightning and rough surf seriously. If storms are in the forecast we recommend parents or guardian stay in the vicinity incase the day is ended early due to thunderstorms.
In the past we have only had to cancel 1-3 days of camp during an entire summer due to lightning storms or rough surf. If we cancel a day early in the week, we do our best to add time to remaining days to make up. If its at the end of the week we offer a one day drop-in voucher to use on another week of camp. Please call before dropping in to ensure availability.
Difference between Surf Lesson and Surf Coaching?
During a Surf Lesson your instructor is in the water assisting you. Surf Lessons are usually for beginner surfers who have not surfed before or still learning how to surf. The student may need help paddling out and will likely be guided or pushed into waves until they get the hang of it. They are also given additional feedback and tips after each wave. An instructor in the water can also be helpful for an experienced surf that may need help with wave selection, and positioning in the line up.
Surf Coaching is perfect for the surfer that can easily paddling out and catch their own waves, but would like to improve on their technique or learn a new maneuver. Also great for surfers that want to improve their competitive skills and strategy. During a coaching session the coach videos the student and together they review the video to provide feedback and break down the students performance.
In the past we’ve had great success with students that start with surf lessons and move onto surf coaching once they are confident on their own.
